26 Weeks

How far along: 26 weeks

Baby's size: a hothouse cucumber; 14 inches (head to heel) and almost 2 lbs.

What Munchkin is up to (according to Babycenter): The network of nerves in your baby's ears is better developed and more sensitive than before. He may now be able to hear both your voice and your partner's as you chat with each other. He's inhaling and exhaling small amounts of amniotic fluid, which is essential for the development of his lungs. These so-called breathing movements are also good practice for when he's born and takes that first gulp of air. And he's continuing to put on baby fat. If you're having a boy, his testicles are beginning to descend into his scrotum — a trip that will take about two to three days.

Symptoms: Body aches, especially lower back. Shooting pains in back, gluts, and down my legs. I actually scared Mia this morning because I was sitting on the floor and went to stand up, and one of those shooting pains shot all the way down my right leg. It wasn't the first time, but it caught me off guard, and I cried out. To which she immediately became concerned and wanted to know if I was okay. Also, the heartburn/tight chest is back.

Total Weight Gain: Didn't get on the scale this week

Best moment since last update: To be honest, this has been a rough week. I suddenly am feeling the physical limitations. I feel larger, and slower, and more sore. This probably has to do with several nights of poor sleep, but overall it's been a challenging week and I'm remembering how much adjusting my body has to do to accomodate this little guy's needs. Also, how much more it takes out of you when there's another little person/toddler who is suddenly very needy of your attention.

Movement: Yup. Lots of rolling and kicking this week. During his most active times, I can actually watch the movements from the outside now.

Food cravings: Whatever I can get my hands on.

Gender: BOY!

What I miss: Sleep. Energy required to keep my patience with a toddler.

What I'm looking forward to: Just a few weeks till the third trimester. Whoa. Time is a flyin' !
