23 Weeks

How far along: 23 weeks

Baby's size: a large mango; 11 inches (head to heel) and just over 1 lb.

What Munchkin is up to (according to Babycenter):

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. You may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him when he hears them outside the womb.

Poor baby boy-- his big sister has been pushing boundaries this week, so he's heard quite a bit of my "Mommy voice" and his sister's dramatic wailing. On the plus-side, he should know what the phrase "time-out" means by the time he's old enough to receive one.

Symptoms: Body aches and increasing weight gain

Total Weight Gain: 16lbs. I'm actually down 2lbs this week, not because I'm dieting, but because I've been making wiser food choices and increased my water intake, which has actually helped with water retention.

Best moment since last update: Kevin threw out an idea for a first name that happened to be one I had liked several years ago when we were discussing names for our first child. Would be nice if it's that easy to name this one, but also fun to start giving the child more of an identity.

Movement: Geez, yes. Baby Boy has had an incredibly active week. His movements have suddenly become alot stronger, too, to the point where he's made me jump a few times. If I were paying closer attention, I might be able to actually start seeing them.

Food cravings: Nothing specific this week.

Gender: BOY!

What I miss: Sleeping on my stomach, and being able to sleep in the same position for more than an hour at a time before my hips and back begin to stiffen.

What I'm looking forward to: TWO doctor's appointments next week. One is the basic heartbeat/measurement check, and the other is a second level II ultrasound since Baby Boy was so lazy last time and refused to move so that they could get all the measurements that they needed. I'm taking my Mom to the ultrasound appointment this time, since she's never actually been to one :)
