8 Months

(Can you tell she wasn't in the mood for a photo shoot today?)

Little Mia, you are 8 months old today!

Here is what's been going on:

• You weigh about 16 pounds


• You wear size 2 diapers and 6-9 month clothes


• You have your two bottom teeth. I can see the top teeth under your gums, but they're taking their time cutting through.


• You've really been fighting your naps. Your nap schedule is pretty inconsistent right now. You love to be a part of everything and don't want to waste any time on sleep!


• Even though naptime can be tough, you are still sleeping 11-12 hours a night and for that we are VERY grateful.


• You continue to explore new foods. This past month, you've been introduced to mashed potatoes, peaches, and yogurt, all of which have been big hits. You love to eat in your high chair like a big girl, sometimes even grabbing the spoon and trying to feed yourself. This results in some very messy feedings. In addition to solids, you still get 4 6-7 oz bottles a day.


• Gerber Puffs are a tasty snack. At first, you weren't quite sure what to do with these strange new things, but you caught on pretty quick! Now when I put them on your tray, you pick them up and eat them almost before I've turned around again.


• You are still army crawling. While you can get up on your hands and knees, you seem to prefer not to move around that way. And why would you? You can get wherever you want and fast doing it your way!


• About a week ago, you started pulling yourself up into a standing position. Once you figured it out, you were unstoppable. You pull yourself onto your feet every chance you get. We've had to take the breakable items off the lower shelves of the bookcases because they're within your reach now.



• In the last 2 days, we have taught you to wave. When we say "hi" and wave at you, you wave back and attempt to mimic our "hi"


• The "mommy phase" seems to have set in. You LOVE to play with Daddy, but when you get hurt or you're tired or you need a snuggle, you crawl over to me and pull on my ankles and legs until you're picked up. You also won't fall asleep at night unless I'm the one giving you the bottle. This last part is a little bit frustrating for both Mama and Daddy, but we know it's a phase and we're waiting it out.


• You are a bright, active, constantly moving bundle of personality. It's hard to believe you are 8 months old already!
