6 Months

Author's Note: The picture below is the ONLY picture I could get after 10 minutes of trying. I wanted a picture where she was looking at the camera, but it wasn't happening. And then I decided that this was the perfect picture to put up for Mia's six month post because it so perfectly describes what's going on these days. Mia is a social butterfly and constantly on the move. She doesn't slow down for anything. Not even a photography session.

Little Mia, you're six months old today!

Here's what's been going on:

  • You weigh somewhere between 14 and 15 pounds, and are still growing like crazy! You're going to be a tall girl.

  • You are still wearing size 2 diapers.

  • This month, we started solid foods. You're proving to be a slightly picky eater. You HATE sweet potato and green beans. You tolerate rice cereal and carrots. You LOVE oatmeal and pumpkin. You eat three 2oz servings of solids every day. In addition, you're still drinking four 6oz bottles between 8am and 8pm.

  • You sleep almost 12 hours a night!! What a good girl!! In addition, you take a 45 minute nap every morning and a 1 1/2 to 2 hour nap after lunch.

  • You have become impossible to keep still. You roll/scoot all over the floor and grab at everything in your reach. We have started baby-proofing the house, because we know that as soon as you figure out this crawling thing, you'll be impossible to stop.

  • You can sit on your own for short periods of time, but prefer to be in the standing position. When you're sitting, you'll try to kick your legs out so that you can stand, which sends you toppling over. You will also roll over to the couch or the edge of the crib and reach up to try and pull yourself up. We keep reminding you that you're too little for this, but you don't seem to pay any mind.

  • You LOVE your jumperoo. When you get going, you'll pound all the buttons and then laugh and squeal when they light up and start to play music. We love this toy, too, because it's a safe place for you to play when we have to step out of the room for a moment.

  • You don't use consonants in your babble yet, but you've learned the word "Hey!" Except, it sounds very valley girl-ish, so it's more like "Heeeeyyyyy!" You use this as a greeting and will also repeat it back to us when we say it to you.

  • You're learning object permanence. When you drop something from your high chair now, you immediately lean over to see where it landed on the floor. Then you'll look up at us, as if to say, "Well, who's going to pick it up for me?"

  • You love to laugh. You have an adorable giggle that then turns into a full-blown belly laugh.

  • Still no teeth, but that doesn't stop you from chomping on everything you can get your hands on.

  • In some ways, it's hard to still call you a baby. You're obviously still young, but you have such a unique personality now.

Happy six months, Little Mia.
