I cheated a little on this one. It's a German Streusel, but the cake part came from a box. I did, though, cut up the apples from our picking adventure a couple of weeks ago.
German Apple Streusel
1 box of Dr. Oetker streusel mix
1/2 cup of softened butter
1 egg
2 lbs of apples
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9 inch springform pan.
2. CAKE: Empty contents of package into a bowl. Add butter and egg. Blend or mix until the mixture is crumbly (I just used a wooden spoon). Gently press 2/3 of the dough into the prepared pan.
3. FILLING: Spread the apple filling over the base, leavin a 1/2 inch border around the edge.
4. TOPPING: Sprinkle remaining crums evenly over the filling. Bake on the middle rack for 40-50 minutes, or until golden. Let cool for 10 minutes. Remove from pan.
I added a little cinnamon and nutmeg to the apples before I put them in. Looks and smells yummy!
I'm using some more of the apples for dinner tonight, with our pork chops. I haven't found an apple pork chop recipe I really like, but this one looks promising, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
