38 Weeks

I almost don't want to write this post because really?  Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine.

I should probably be all appreciative here.  I'm 38 weeks with an extremely uncomplicated pregnancy, and all looks well moving forward through the next couple of weeks.  And I'm not technically due for another 2 weeks, so let's not rush things, right?

There.  Now, the flip side of that?  He's low.  And seemingly comfortable in my back.  And while there's lots of cramping, and aching, and shooting pains...there's nothing to say he's making an appearance anytime soon. Twice in the last 24 hours, 2 strangers have commented on how small I am, and how I don't look like I'm so close to my due date.  Which I suppose is a compliment, but I sure don't feel small, nor do I feel in the mood to do this much longer.  But thank you for commenting.

So, yeah, appreciative.  But also cranky.

Moving on.

Baby's size: a leek; 19.5 inches, and 6.8 lbs (on average...size at this stage can really be all over the place, so who knows?)

What Munchkin is up to (according to Babycenter.com):
Your baby has really plumped up. He has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold his  hand for the first time! His organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If he's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If he's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time he's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after he's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)

Since Kevin and I both have blue eyes, I'm guessing this baby will, too.  The bigger question for me is hair color.  Mia has blue eyes and strawberry blond hair...more my coloring.  Kevin is much darker, so a blue-eyed, dark-haired baby is entirely possible?  Either way?  I expect lots of hair. That's in the genes, too.

Total Weight Gain: 32 lbs, according to my doctor, and she's entirely happy with that, even if I did gain 3 lbs in the last week, according to their scale.

Best moment since last update: We took Mia to Build-A-Bear workshop on Wednesday to make a big sister gift for her baby brother.  She was a little shy at first, but she got into the process of picking out a bunny, stuffing it (including kissing a little heart to put inside), and then picking out an outfit and shoes.  She even gave him a name:  Bunny.

Bunny is currently sitting up on the changing table in the nursery awaiting Baby Boy's arrival.  Mia says that when he comes, she's going to teach her brother how to play with it, and he can sleep with Bunny like she sleeps with her Lamby.

I'm not naive enough to think that there's going to be a seamless transition once this baby arrives, because I also know how possessive and jealous of my time Mia is.  We're already working through some nighttime battles because she wants to sit on my lap (for longer and longer and longer) periods of time and "cuddle".  Leaving the room after she's been read to, snuggled, tucked in, and prayed over, has resulted in varying degrees of distress, for both of us.  But I think we've done just about everything we can to prepare her for this new sibling, so now I guess we just wait and see.

Movement: Yup. In fact, at my appointment yesterday, we actually found his heartbeat on the opposite side from where it normally is. Which means that he's still managing to wiggle his back end from one side to the other, though he remains head down and that's the most important.

Food cravings: Yes.

Gender: BOY!

What I miss: Comfort.  Being able to walk without shuffling.

What I'm looking forward to: The beginning of the holidays.  This coming week marks the start of my favorite time of year, and because I know December is going to slip by so quickly, we're getting a little jump start this year.  Kevin has taken off of work next Wednesday so that we can go get a tree.  My immediate family (parents and sister) are coming to celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday, and then staying to help decorate the house Thursday night.
