Mostly for my own records...
Mia had her 15 month doctor appointment this morning. The doctor we saw is my favorite of the group of pediatricians. Her bedside manner is wonderful, and I feel like she's really focused on us while we're in there, not just rushing to check another patient off the list. Mia demonstrated some of her skills, like pointing to her nose when prompted, and trying to put on her shoes independently. She told us what we already knew, the she's demonstrating skills and abilities slightly advanced for her age, and then asked if we'd experienced any of the "terrible twos" yet.
Yes.
Oh yes.
She says it's typical, may get better once she becomes more verbal, but that children as indpendent as she appears to be are generally strong-willed.
I need to find a "time out" location soon.
Mia's social awareness over the last couple months has definitely increased. While we waited for our turn in the clinic today, there were several fussing/crying babies. Mia started to cry herself, then crawled up on my lap, tucked her head on my shoulder and sucked on her fingers. As soon as we moved from the waiting room into the the office, she was her normal talkative, active self again, but the other crying babies visibly made her nervous. I also noticed that when we went in to get her shots today, for the first time she anticipated what was coming even before the first prick. There's definitely some memory developing.
We came home, had lunch, I gave her Tylenol, and she's been sleeping for a little over an hour.
The best news? No more doctor's appointments for the next 9 months! Woohoo! We made it through the first year!

Congratualtions on making it out of the first year in one piece!!
I'm not a mom, but I hear that if you have some inside, stairs are a good timeout spot. No toys, no distractions, definitely not a pleasant/appealing place to be, not usually in the center of the action (seclusion being a major part of the punishment, after all).
Good luck!
