As you may have read here, the next six months are a little unclear for us. Our outlook has changed from where we were a year ago. It's a little like being in a free fall. Our current source of income will end in June. We have not yet established the next source of income. The thought is a little scary in a time when the economy is not exactly thriving and jobs are more difficult to come by.
On the other hand.
Unlike Kevin, I'm feeling an incredible sense of peace about this coming year. In fact, I feel very optimistic, as if this year will be a big one for us, and in a good way. I'm not sure where all this confidence comes from because to be honest, I'm usually the worrier. Maybe as we get closer to the summer, I'll be eating my words and losing sleep? I don't know. But for now, here's what I'm looking forward to in 2010:
Internship (Jan-April). Starting mid-January, I will be interning 2 days a week at the media center in a local elementary school. While I feel blessed to be able to stay at home with Mia, I miss the interaction with other adults and my students that I had when I was teaching. This opportunity allows me to dip a toe back in the water after 2 years. It also allows me to put a foot in the door at the school district, which will be beneficial if I go back to work in the fall.
Mia's first birthday (April). What? Is it too early to start planning? I only have a little over 3 months!
Finishing degrees (May). Kevin and I will both complete Master's programs. One or both of us has been in school for the last 2 1/2 years and it will be rewarding to have that phase behind us. While more schooling may be in Kevin's future, I feel a sense of accomplishment with my Master's and don't plan to go any further.
House shopping(late spring/summer)??? This one is still in the talking stages. We're not quite sure where we plan to live after June, or how long we plan to live there. We think that if we end up staying in this area we will look into buying. In the meantime, it's nice to look and dream.
5th wedding anniversary (July). That's a big deal, right? 5 whole years?? I'm pretty sure that deserves something in a blue box. Ha! Speaking of weddings...
A wedding (August). A college roommate of mine asked me to be in her wedding this summer. The save-the-date card came in the mail the other day and I may possibly be more excited than I was for my own wedding ;) All the fun without the work!
A new baby (August/September). Not ours! But new babies are always nice. Even nicer when yours is sleeping through the night and you can cuddle and kiss and hold someone else's newborn and then go home and get a full night's sleep.
With all that on the calendar...I'm ready for the new year!
