Catching Up

I've sat down a couple times this week to write an update, but really, there hasn't been anything blog-worthy to note.

Friday marked 32 weeks and things are still going smoothly. I'm still having trouble sleeping through the night, but I'm also fortunate that I don't have to get up early in the morning, so I can make up the time then on the nights that I need to. Also, I've developed chest tightness and heartburn after I eat or drink ANYTHING! Doesn't even have to be spicy. Water will do it. Blech.

Mia is still extremely active. My doctor suggested last time I was in that I pay attention to fetal movements. 10 movements in 2 hours, she says. Definitely not a problem. Most times, it's at least 10 in ONE hour.

Other milestones in Mia-world:

  • She is just under 4 lbs and a little less than 17 inches long. Babycenter.com says that she's about the size of large jicama. If you're like me and you have NO idea what that is, it looks like this:
  • She has toenails, fingernails and a head of real hair.

  • Her skin is becoming soft and smooth (love that new baby softness!)

  • If you did a brain scan at this point, it would show signs of rapid eye movement, which means that she's actually able to dream!

  • She's working real hard at making Mommy feel more whale-like by the day (but Mommy doesn't really mind, because it's all worth it in the long run)

We've also made more progress on the nursery, and we're almost there. My baby shower is this coming weekend, and we'll finish up alot of the organizational stuff after that. I'm going to save any more pictures until we're done and then I'll do the big reveal :)

Last night, we got all dressed up and went to a nice restaurant for dinner. Since I've been awkward and slow-moving lately, getting dressed up and feeling pretty was as much of a treat as the amazing cuisine.

Today was rather busy. Kevin had errands that kept him out till mid-afternoon, and I worked until about the same time. I made a simple spaghetti dinner, which we ate with sparkling grape juice (we're becoming connoisseurs!) and exchanged gifts. I bought Kevin two books on photography, one specifically on the camera we received as a Christmas gift, and the other on "tricks" for photographing children. He bought me this:

In the last week, I've noticed that my wedding and engagement rings have become tight to the point of being uncomfortable. I knew that they would have to eventually come off, but I'd been fretting to Kevin about how I wasn't looking forward to this because I just felt "naked" without them. So my Valentine's Day gift was a white gold band that is identical to my original wedding band, but in a slightly larger size, so I could continue to wear it through the remainder of the pregnancy. This ranks up there as one of the sweeter gifts he's given me in the 8 years we've been together. I took off my other rings tonight and replaced them with this one. Once my hands return to their normal size, I'll slip the other two back on over it.

That, I think, catches everybody up with what's been going on this week. One more picture we took tonight as I was putting some things away:

Look how itty-bitty that diaper is! This is one of the newborn (up to 10lbs) diapers. It's a little crazy that Kevin's hand is larger than it is! We know that she'll outgrow this size before we know it, but still...how tiny!

Mia's retina is fully formed and her lungs are almost ready for prime time. Keep going.

What a lovely gesture that Valentine's gift is!
