A Little Furniture Progress

Over the long weekend, we went to DC to pick up the crib we are borrowing for Baby Mia. Mental note: 11 hours in the car (one way) is too long at 28 weeks pregnant. My hips are still sore two days later. But the crib is here!

As you know from the last post, we ran into a bit of a snag with the dresser we had ordered. Not being a patient person, I attacked this project again yesterday, sure I could figure it out, with or without the company's help. Turns out that two of the parts we thought were missing aren't actually missing...they just look completely different than those pictured in the (lousy) directions. It took several hours in the afternoon, and then another hour in the evening, but look what I did while Kevin wrestled with the customer service line:

Yippee! An almost completed dresser. You can see in the second picture that the top drawer is still missing. The holes in the drawer front are not drilled correctly. We're still trying to decide what to do with this. At this point, I'm thinking we come up with a solution on our own, Kevin thinks we should wait a few days and see if customer service gets back to us. So I'm trying to be patient. In the meantime, I'm thinking about ordering a little pink toolbelt for Mia, and maybe one for me, too.

Actually...it wasn't too hard, just time-consuming. The process sped up once I decided to ignore the (did I mention lousy?) directions, and go more with common sense.

The crib, on the other hand, has been put together recently, and so we know it won't take nearly as long. It's currently leaning against the wall of the nursery, but I'm hoping to see that come together soon.

A couple other pictures. This first one is a rocking chair we also brought back from Atlanta. This chair was Kevin's when he was little enough to fit in it (teehee!), and for right now it's residing in our den. Once Mia is a little older, it will move upstairs to her room.

The last couple pictures are just playing around. My inlaws gave us a new Canon Rebel xsi camera for Christmas. All the settings and capabilities are a little beyond me right now, but Kevin is more familiar with cameras than I am, and he's been playing around a bit. Here are our two other "babies". Callie is our snuggler, and can usually be found within a few feet of me. In this picture, she was actually sitting right next to my hip.
Scarlett is our "cute" one, but don't be deceived! She's really the more mischevious of the two. She likes to be touched when she tells you it's okay, but it has to be her idea. At the same time, she doesn't like to be left out of anything, so she's usually nearby, just out of arm's reach.
