A Well-Heeled Baby

My shoe passion is no secret from family and friends. In fact, for the last couple pregnancies in our social circle one of my first gifts for the new baby has been baby booties (completely soft-sided) to start him or her on the right road to foot fashion.

Having said that, these (click to link) really bother me, on several levels. First, high heels, especially the ones that look like the ones sold by this company, are meant to add to a woman's sex appeal. They are not meant for 0-6 month old baby girls. I think the message here is all wrong. You can have a fashionista baby (though really, the spit up down the front may spoil that image), but keep it age appropriate. Secondly, the company claims that the shoes are completely soft and will collapse of any weight is put on them, which may very well be true. But are they really good for tiny developing feet? And $35.00??? Really?? For shoes that will last for a few weeks, tops? I just don't think this is something we will be investing in.

Besides, we'll need the money for this crib (click to link) instead. Because, you know, every baby needs a $900 crib.

I think those super-duper cribs are designed for people who don't anticipate having more than one child. Why not? The crib graduates with the child. But if you have the next child, you'll be needing the crib again. Might I suggest using an heirloom crib, reasonable toddler furniture [low to the ground, uses the crib-sized mattress] and then go all out for lifetime furniture that they'll take away from the home when they go off on their own.

Yes, as beautiful as the crib is, we really won't be paying $900 for that single piece of furniture. I think that there's a balance between buying good quality furniture and paying for the name. Restoration Hardware has beautiful items, but it's simply not in our budget and I'm too much of a "bargain shopper" to justify the purchase at this stage in our lives.

That is the color we think we will be doing, though.
