Little Jacob, you are 1 month old today!
At one month, you-
- weigh somewhere in the 8-9 lb range (I think)
- are gradually moving from newborn to size 1 diapers. I just made Daddy go on a hunt for the elusive Swaddlers Newborn diapers recently because he accidentally bought the size 1s and they looked huge. But in the last day or two, I'm noticing that the newborn size might be getting a little tight around your hips, so maybe Daddy had the right idea all along (sorry, Daddy!)
- are also somewhere between newborn and 0-3 months in closing. Like your sister, you're long and skinny. So the 0-3 still seem wide on you, but your legs are so long that they get scrunched up in the newborn size footed outfits. So I'm beginning to put you in the next size up and they're just a little bit on the large side for now.
- are beginning to fall into a more predictable routine. You get up between 7 and 8am for the day. After eating, you're awake till about 10, then take a 2 hour nap, especially if we're out and about and you fall asleep in the car. If you're not awake by noon, I usually help you wake, and then you're up again till 2ish. This works really well since Mia still take her nap from 1-3pm, so I get a little quiet time to myself. Your afternoon nap usually goes till about 4:30, and then you're up again till we start our bedtime routine around 8. Sometimes you take a catnap in there around dinnertime, but not always. We do bath, a final feeding, and cuddles, beginning around 8pm, and you're usually asleep by 9:30.
- have NO nighttime sleep routine established yet. You'll get up anywhere between 1 and 4 times a night. You have been sleeping in a pack n' play in our bedroom so that I have less distance to travel during our multiple nighttime visits, but I'm starting to wonder if maybe our own noises are waking you at night. Maybe it's time to try putting you in the crib in your room?
- HAVE been sleeping well in your crib the last couple days during naptime. I use a noise machine to block out your sister's noise and that seems to be working well.
- have tended to be a particular baby, and sometimes hard to please (meaning: you cry alot). Knock on wood, the last few days have seemed a little better. Or maybe I'm just getting better at figuring out your cues? Either way, something has shifted a little and I hope it stays that way.
- are starting to have longer alert periods in which you look around, focus on people and objects, and even coo a little bit.
- HATE to be strapped in the carseat... until we start moving and then you almost always fall asleep immediately.
- are extremely tolerant of your sister's affections, but will let her know when you've had enough.
- enjoy your swing and will occasionally nap there.
- have not yet (officially) graced us with your first smile (did I mention you're a crier?), but both Daddy and I think we might have seen one try to sneak out, so hopefully soon.
