First Haircut and A Morning Out

I had been dreading the first haircut. Sure, it grows back. But something about cutting off the last of the baby locks was hard. So we've been putting it off. Except that it got to the point where the hair was looking a little bit shaggy.

Okay. So I polled my local friends on where to get it done, and when the majority suggested heading to Cartoon Cuts, I made my decision. This morning I packed the kiddo up in the car and took the plunge.

At first, I thought it was going to be a disaster. She freaked as soon as I placed her in the chair. The stylist and I agreed to skip the cape, and we forged ahead. I managed to distract Mia with cheerios, and the Dora video on the television in front of her. The stylist produced a lollipop, and while Mia still wasn't happy and clung to my hand (thus, no pictures), she did sit still for the five minutes it took to dampen, trim, and comb out her hair. Mia picked a clip, and that was it.

Five minutes. Done. We even have a certificate and a lock of hair as a memento.

Here she is, fresh from her first salon experience, still enjoying her lollipop.

After that experience was over, I decided to make a morning of it, so we wandered around for half an hour and then headed over to a Peter Rabbit storytime at the Pottery Barn Kids. This, too, was a first for us. While we read lots of books at home, I've never taken her to a storytime. But we've coming along way in social skills like listening, and waiting our turn, so I decided to give it a shot.

Another success! By the way, if you've never done this, check it out. The Book Club meets every week from 11:00-11:30. It's free, and the story itself only lasts about 15 minutes, then the kids get their "passport" stamped. After 5 visits, you receive $10 off any book in the store. Not a bad deal!

We finished off our morning out with a trip to a fine dining establishment.

Not the most fabulous picture, since the focus at this point was on FOOD and not on looking cute. So we took a few more pictures when we got home for posterity sake.

And there we have it! Another milestone reached. And relatively painless for all involved.

And I have to admit, these mommy-daughter dates? These are kind of fun.

Way to go, mommy! Mia's hair looks so lovely :) I'm having the same issue with Maggie right now. I'm scared cutting it will make her sweet curls disappear but she's starting to look scraggly in back. Just yesterday I started seriously considering a haircut, but am waffling too much to commit :)

I can't believe these girls are almost 2. It boggles the mind.
