She's always listening...

This weekend, we made a family trip to Ikea. While walking around, Kevin and I discussed how we'd need to start thinking about a toddler bed soon because we likely only had a few months left before Mia started climbing out of the crib (she'd been putting her toes up on the side like a ballet bar, but nothing more.) Then yesterday, we were wandering around the outlet mall and peeked in Pottery Barn Kids for some bedding inspiration for when we would turn the room from a nursery into a "big girl" room. Again, we discussed how we'd need to make some decisions in the next 3 months or so.

Apparently, Mia was listening. Because this morning? She climbed out of the crib.

Not even 21 months, y'all...that's all we get.

I was in the room when it happened, but I know that once she's figured out she can do it, she'll do it again and again, and I don't want her to get hurt just because we weren't quite ready for her to do this yet.

So I spent the morning dismantling the crib. The whole process was sad.

So long, babyhood:

Hello...prisonhood? It's hard to look homey with a mattress on the floor.

But not to fear, all the essentials are still included:

And even though it took an extra hour of crying, pleading, and tough love... Our big girl fell asleep in her own "bed" at naptime.

Which will likely lead to some crying and pleading of my own, once I allow myself to sit and think about it. How can she POSSIBLY be sleeping in a bed already?!

And how do I keep her in said bed when she wakes up at 4:15 in the morning?

My little girl just turned 20 months and though her brother was in a "real" bed by 22 months, I couldn't imagine putting her in a bed yet. Not looking forward to saying goodbye to the crib, so sad.

I'm curious to know how this all goes because my toddler will probably need to transition to bed this spring when the baby moves from pack-n-play to crib. :)
