What Happens When I Get An Idea in My Head

The following is part excitement and part shameless plug.

Y'all, I've started a new project.

I love being a stay-at-home-mom. Is it hard, exhausting, and sometimes frustrating? Yes, yes, and yes. But it's also giggles, kisses, and achievements.

Having said that.

I've been feeling a little stuck lately, and recently saidout loud to a group of friends that I missed my "professional self." I have an undergraduate degree in education, a graduate degree in library science, and several years of teaching experience, with all ability levels, under my belt. I wanted to do something with all that, but I didn't want to go back to work outside of the home, or take on the stress of a full-time job.

So I started looking at freelancing opportunities. Except I don't have a journalism degree. Or professional writing experience.

Hmm.

So I'm starting at the bottom. I've begun writing for an online source. I'm not really planning on making any big money off this venture, but that's not my purpose. I need the challenge. I need to keep my professional skills fresh. I need the identity outside of "Mommy." Even so, it's always nice to know that someone is reading what you're writing, and even better, responding!

Here's where you all come in:

  • Will you pretty please click here and read my first article? This particular one is about a local event, but I'll be writing children's book reviews, general literacy activities, and (easy!) ways you can include reading with your child into your daily routine, so don't be scared away if you're not a DC Metro resident.
  • If you like what you see, will you come back again, and pass on the word?
  • I've also started a Facebook profile completely separate from my personal profile. You can find the button to the right on this page. If you are at all interested, could you press the "Like" button and help get the word out through FB, also?

Self-marketing is really not my strong point, so I appreciate any help you can give me!

I'm keeping this blog personal, so if any of this sounded blah, blah, blah to you...we can still be friends. I'll be back to posting cute pictures soon.

Thanks, all!
