Mystery (Un)explained

Since we like to keep things a little crazy round here, we decided that last weekend would be the perfect weekend to get family photos taken for our holiday card.

Mia apparently likes to have her picture absolutely anywhere...except in the studio.

She was, in a word, horrible.

Screaming, snotty, crying, screaming, horrible.

Thank goodness for photo editing software. They will touch up the red rimmed eyes and nose, and we'll have a family picture. In 1o years, I might be ready to try the experience again. Maybe.

So we came home, Mia took a nap,and woke up. Within a few hours, it was clear that she wasn't feeling her best. More snot. More congestion. More clinging and whining. Felt warm, but nothing too serious.

She woke up several times Saturday night, but seemed her normal cheerful self, except for a runny nose on Sunday. No fever. Church. Nap.

Woke up early from her nap, and thus began 5 hours of fussing and general crankiness (accompanied by the ever-present snot). By Sunday night, Kevin noticed her cheeks looked rash-y. When she woke up this morning (no fever, hooray!), the rash had spread up her cheek to her ears and temple. I called the doctor's office, and they got me an appointment at 10:15.

By the time we got to the doctor's office, her cheeks, neck, torso, and back were covered in tiny pinprick dots. The diagnosis? A rash. Likely caused by a virus. Possibly Fifths Disease. Possibly something else. Not strep (culture came back negative).

Cleared that right up.

Ahhh, another milestone reached. Our first unexplainable skin rash.

Tonight? Still congested, but back to her normal go-go-go activity level. Still slightly rash-y, but much better than this morning.

And company is arriving tomorrow.

Fortunately, she took a 3 hour nap today so I could do a mad cleaning of the house. Kevin got home from work a little early and pitched in so that we got the house presentable.

Phew. Mommy could do with a little wine.
