A Milestone We Could Have Skipped

Around lunchtime yesterday, I was standing in the kitchen preparing my own meal while Mia played in the living room. Active as always, she was running towards me, trailing a small blanket, when her foot got tangled in the blanket at the top of a set of stairs leading down to our basement.

You know where this is going, right?

She slid down the 6 carpeted steps to the next landing, and would have been fine, except she twisted, and when she stopped she hit her head on the corner. I was there instantly, and scooped her screaming self up and cuddled her, and then when I pulled her away for an inspection, realized the right side of her face was covered in blood.

Fortunately, I got the bleeding to stop with just a few minutes of pressure, and then we were on our way to the doctor's office.

Let's add here that we've only had this insurance for about 3 weeks and I've never even met the doctors. A HUGE kudos to them because the medical center I took her to does not typically do walk ins, and would have probably directed me to their larger facility 30 minutes away, but since I was there, 2 of the pediatric doctors and 2 nurses took the time to consult on the next step and then to take care of it. Much different than the military facilities I am used to, who would have told us that these were the rules, and that was that.

Anyway.

By the time we got to the doctor's office, she had completely settled down. She was alert, focused, talking, and making animal noises. After both doctors examined her, they determined that they could probably close the wound with liquid adhesive, rather than trying to sew up a 17-month old. The wound itself is approximately 1/2 '' to 3/4'' long, but fairly deep. There was lots more crying and screaming as they cleaned out and glued the gash back together, but then we were on our way. She'll have to wear a bandage over the site for the next week, to keep her from pulling at the 3 adhesive strips that are helping hold everything together, but they should fall off in the next 5-10 days.

And then our a/c died with our temps in the mid-90's.

Yesterday kicked. my. behind.

So we're starting over again today.

Mia, by the way? Back to laughing, running, yelling, and making me pull my hair out trying to keep her activity level quiet for a few days.

That last one is not crying, but her periodic announcement of "Ow! Eye!"

Yes, baby, I know.

Bless both ya'll's hearts. It would appear that you had a very trying day yesterday. I am happy to hear that Mia is doing A-OK. And I hope that your Mama's heart has recovered as well.
