What's Better Than Going to the Party?

NoGoBlogHer

NOT going to the party. So I'm not. Going to the party, that is. And it appears you're not, either.
So.

Wine?

Margarita? (Yes, please!)

But only after the kiddo is asleep.

Parental responsibilities and all that.

Or you're not into beverages, you can just poke around and leave me a comment. Because then I can come and poke around your place, too.

Go ahead! Poke away!

When did you start blogging?
Hmmm, let's see... I started blogging in the fall of 2005. Back then, I was newly married to my Navy sailor, working full time as a classroom teacher, and setting up house in a 2 bedroom apartment we had just signed the lease on.

Fast forward 5 years, and I'm still married to that same guy, but he just transitioned out of the military into civilian life. We have a 15 month old, full-steam-ahead, daughter. And we just bought our first house at the end of June. I finished a second degree, but no longer work in the classroom. Instead, I'm a stay-at-home mom who can interperet the noises of an almost-verbal toddler and spends a little too much time with Elmo.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging as a writing outlet and a personal journaling activity. With a spouse who was in and out of port, it was also a way to post images and stories of life at home that he could read while he was away. At that time, I posted at In My Shoes. That blog is no longer in existence.

In July of 2008, we learned we were pregnant. In September 2008, we began From Both Sides of the White Picket Fence to chronicle our pregnancy and I've been writing her ever since. This has become a spot to keep real-life family and friends updated on our lives, as well as an outlet for meeting a few new friends. I'm generally the "keeper of the blog", but the image credit goes almost entirely to my husband, who has a natural eye for photography. And knows how to work the fancy camera.

What is one thing you are going to do this week that is WAY cooler than going to BlogHer?

Umm, making animal noises and eating goldfish crackers with a 15-month old, isn't that cool enough???

No?

Oh. Well, I'm in a wedding this weekend, too. So I'm very excited to spend the weekend "back home" with some lovely ladies I don't get to see very often, and then some downtime with the family.

And let's be honest, I'm not cool enough to hang with the big kids anyway.

Some posts you should check out:

Two Children- A rare post by the resident photographer (also known as the Daddy and Husband)

Animal Noises and Body Parts - You asked what was better than BlogHer?

I hope you enjoy your visit. We keep things pretty light around here, so lots of pictures, lots of stories, and (almost) no politics.

Happy hopping! And thanks to Stefany and Maya for hosting!

I taught for a long time before staying home to raise my son. In many ways it is more challenging and rewarding than the classroom was.

You spend too much time with Elmo and I'm constantly harassed by Sponge Bob... I really DON'T like Sponge Bob, at all!!

Stopping by from No-Go... I'm not cool enough either! ;)

I really enjoyed my visit here, so in the interest of not forgetting where I found you (my kids stole my memory, honest) I'm a new follower!! Just thought you should know who the nutcase is... me! lol

I don't like going to weddings because I hate dressing up and they always seem to last long. Even at my own, I was feeling sorry for the guests because they had to wait so long to eat while our photographer took forever taking pictures right after the ceremony.

Stopping by from the no-Go BlogHer hop.

I thought weddings were supposed to be followed by parties -- the reception. Maybe a little too formal to be called a party, huh?
