This past weekend, we celebrated St. Nicholas Day. When I was growing up, we always celebrated St. Nicholas Day by leaving our shoes out before we left for school in the morning, and when we came home they would be filled with chocolate coins, nuts, a tangerine, and a small treat. After we were married, I introduced Kevin to this tradition, and we've shared it together. This year, we celebrated St. Nicholas Day with Mia. My family came over and we exchanged small gifts and I made a traditional German meal. I might be just a slight bit on the perfectionist side, because I was really stressed about making the day perfect.
And it all came together beautifully, complete with our own St. Nicholas Day miracle--several inches of early December snow.

Getting ready to go out
Too bundled to be able to sit upright without support
It's hard to see with this hat on...
Much better!
First taste of snow
Snow baby
She loved it.
She may be a southerner by birth, but there's a little yankee running through that blood, too!

So cute! Our kids all went to Orange Hunt in participated in the German Immersion program there. You should consider it...you can get pupil placed because of the program, but have to provide your own transportation if you are not in the OHES boundaries. It is an amazing program. Shawn continued German thru AP as a senior. Sarah continued thru German 4, I believe. She is actually more fluent. Brett is taking German 2 in 8th grade and we've already informed him he's taking all the way thru West Springfield High. Yes, they do speak German when they are all together at times. My husband speaks no German (nor do I). I do, however, understand enuf to get by (and enuf to get the KIDS in trouble if they try to speak around me!)
We always celebrated St. Nick's day at OHES and they did right on thru into their high school German classes.
Keep it mind BEFORE it's time to sign up for kindergarten. It's a popular program.
Blessings.
Susan
