Are you following all this?
So, according to my scale, I've gained 19 pounds. According to the scale at the doctor's office, I've gained 24. The bulk of this has been in the last 8 weeks since I saw my doctor. So her comment to me on Friday was, "Whoa! What did you eat for Christmas??" I then got the lecture on how only about 15 lbs of weight is baby, placenta, and water, and the rest is weight I'll have to lose on my own, and the more I put on now, the more I'll have to lose, and blah, blah, blah.
Grrr. Honestly, how many women only gain 15 pounds during pregnancy? Because I don't know a single one. That just seems ridiculous. So she told me what I should be eating/drinking to keep off those "empty calories" and I nodded and smiled, and inwardly fumed. *sigh* I like her, but I wasn't a fan this time. We'll see what she has to say when I go back in 4 weeks.
After the appointment I went down to the lab and took my 1 hour glucose test. Ick. Keep your fingers crossed I passed, because I don't really want to have to do the 3 hour test.
I was still feeling fussy about the weight issue, so on my way home I stopped at the baby store and did a little retail therapy. This blanket cost me less than $6. Cute, right?

Alright, now that I have that out of my system...This week's Mia stats:
- She weighs approximately 2 3/4 pounds and is a little over 15 inches long. About the size of a butternut squash.
- Her heartbeat on Friday was between 148 and 155 bps. We're going to enroll her in gymnastics as soon as she can crawl.
- She has developed a pattern. I can fairly accurately predict when her active times of day (and night) are.
- Other than that, she's mostly busy just growing! Seems like all systems are go and now she's fine-tuning.

Keep growing, Baby Mia!
Sidenote:
I originally started this post on Friday, and then couldn't get the camera to work to take the pictures I wanted. So I finished it on Sunday night. In the meantime, Kevin took a candid profile photo on Saturday that totally had me gaping. I guess I can feel that she's gotten bigger, since some days it feels as if I'm carrying 4 babies in there, not just one. I won't post that one, but here's the "official" tummy shot.
Whoa, Baby!

Fear not! I think I gained 15 pounds with my first pregnancy, but I was overweight to begin with. I ASSURE YOU, if you breastfeed for a goodly amount of time, you WILL lose the weight while still being able to eat like a lumberjack. Gestational calories are more than normal, but less than half of lactation calories. Tip I should've learned though before the fact: when baby starts to eat solid food your milk production will go down and your calorie bonanza needs to end.
Let me guess: this doctor is a Q-Tip. You look great. Dismiss that.
