I woke up yesterday morning feeling rather excited because FINALLY almost two years of campaigning would be over and, regardless of who you support, there would be answer to who our next ruler would be within the next 24 hours. I went in and voted around lunchtime. By midafternoon, I was starting to feel under the weather. I was asleep by 10:00 last night, relying on Kevin to tell me the results when he came upstairs shortly after 11:00. So I caught up on all the news this morning. Only to find that this battle is not yet over, as Barack supporters celebrate to the point of gloating, and McCain supporters take his defeat personally and make idle threats about how they will flee to Canada rather than stay in the U.S. to witness the sure devastation of the next 4 years.
Come on, folks. This is a time for both gracious winners AND gracious losers. Whether you're happy with the outcome or not, yesterday is over, a decision has been made, and it's time to move on. This country has survived through both good and bad Presidents. In four years, we will likely be thanking Obama for successes he's had, and criticizing him for failures, just as we have every other President in the last 250 years. Time to move forward.
And that's all I have to say about that. Except! This song has been running through my head all morning (and herein lies "the twist"):
You can't stop today
As it comes speeding down the track
Child, yesterday is hist'ry
And it's never coming back
