The end of an era

Tonight we carved the pumpkin and bought an extra bag of candy just in case the large group of neighborhood kids ran through our first bag. Sunset in Washington was 6:02 PM, and not long after it got dark, there was the first knock on the door. Two little boys, our neighbors across the street, and their dad, a fellow Navy officer. In all we had about two dozen kids ranging in age from 2 or 3 to the oldest outlier at around 17 (he did get a weird "what are you doing here?" look from me).

This is the end of an era; the last year in which we'll just be sitting at home waiting on friends and neighbors to come to us on a Halloween night. A six month-old is probably too little to take out trick-or-treating, but we can still have some fun.
